The President of the United States, Joe Biden vehemently protested that it would never recognize Russia's attempts to colonize territory in Ukraine.
Biden also denounced the vote carried out by pro-Russian forces in the territory of Ukraine, labeling it as fake.
Washington is currently working with allies to impose sanctions on Russia, where individuals and entities supporting these actions will suffer the consequences.
The statement came ahead of President Vladimir Putin's speech on Friday which is expected to announce the annexation of four Ukrainian regions under Russia.
This follows his victory in the referendum conducted in the four regions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson recently.
Despite this, Ukraine and Western countries have rejected the vote and described it as a fraud.
On Thursday, Putin signed two documents recognizing Zporizhzhia and Kerson as independent regions, paving the way for them to conquer them.
The document, shared in Russian state media, says the independence of the two regions is recognized in accordance with international law and enshrined in the UN charter.
However, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said any annexation** of a country's territory based on the use of force violates the UN charter and international law.
**Annexation is an administrative action and an international legal concept regarding the forcible acquisition of a sovereign country's territory by another country.
