Ukraine successfully recaptured a village near the eastern city of Lysychansk on Monday.

Although only a small victory, it carries a symbolic meaning that Russia no longer has full control over the Luhansk region, one of President Vladimir Putin's main war targets.

Luhansk Governor Serhiy Haidai said Ukrainian military forces were in full control of Bilohorivka.

"Step by step, centimeter by centimeter, we will liberate our entire land from the invaders," he said.

Russian troops have occupied the entire Luhansk region for the past two and a half months, where the Ukrainian general staff decided to withdraw from the cities of Sievierdonetsk and Lysychansk in July after a long battle.

Over the past 12 days, Ukrainian regiments in the northeast have launched counterattacks, liberating more than 300 settlements across Kharkiv region and forcing Russian troops to retreat.

Last week, President Volodymyr Zelensky said 6,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in the east and south had been successfully retaken from Russia.

Recaptured territories include Kharkiv in the northeast, which includes the cities of Izyum, Kupiansk and Balakliya. This also includes, south of Kherson.

Western countries continue to offer aid to Ukraine, most recently Liz Truss saying it will spend at least £2.3 billion next year on Kyiv.
