In the wake of the explosion that destroyed the Kerch bridge over the weekend, Russia has responded by launching a massive missile attack on Ukraine.

The Kerch Bridge is Russia's only land link to the Crimean peninsula, which was illegally annexed by Moscow in 2014.

At his Security Council meeting on Monday, President Vladimir Putin threatened further missile strikes against Ukraine, should attempts to commit terrorist acts on its territory continue.

Putin said he had ordered a 'massive' long-range strike targeting Kyiv's energy and communications using missiles fired from the air, sea and land.

Following that, leaders from the G7 economies will reportedly hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also expected to speak at the meeting which will be held via video.

Top officials of the United States, the European Union and the United Nations (UN) have expressed their shock at the Russian counterattack.

According to Zelenskyy, the attack killed at least 14 people and injured 97 victims.

In addition, it has also triggered massive power outages in several cities in Ukraine.
