On a monthly basis, Malaysia's unemployment rate recorded an increase of 3.7% in August.


According to data published by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), there was no change in the total percentage when compared during July.


However, the number of unemployed recorded a decrease of 1.4% at 612,000 during August compared to 620,700 in July with the national labor force figure increasing by 16.63 million compared to 16.60 million.



In addition, their working population also recorded an increase from 15.98 million to 16.02 million with the component breakdown as follows:


Employee category at 76%

Self-employed at 17.5%

Employers at 3.4%

Unpaid family workers at 3.1%

Also scrutinized is the number of active unemployed decreased by 2% at 507,300 during August compared to the previous record at 517,400.


In the meantime, the number of foreign labor force decreased by 0.1% to 7.24 million during August compared to 7.24 million with the largest composition being work at home or family responsibilities at 42.9%.


As information, foreign labor force is not classified as working or unemployed including housewives, students, retirees and individuals who are not interested in working.
