Despite the concerns of the monsoon season, the Election Commission (SPR) set the polling day for the 15th General Election (GE-15) on 19 November.

This will be preceded by nominations set for November 5, with early voting day on November 15.

SPR chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said in a press conference that the campaigning period is for 14 days, from the date of candidate nomination to 11.59pm on 18 November.

He added that the by-election for the Bugaya state assembly seat in Sabah will also be held in the same period.

In the meantime, applications for overseas postal voters will close on October 23.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of the 14th Parliament on 10 October to make way for GE-15 after getting the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The election is expected to cost RM1.01 billion, with more than 21 million people eligible to vote during GE-15, said Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh.
