'Can this be considered child slavery?'
Short duration video platform, TikTok sets the minimum age limit for live broadcast services (livestreams) to 16 to 18 years.
It follows on from previous news about TikTok which is said to be manipulating Syrian refugee victims in order to profit from livestreams.
At that time, the BBC who conducted the investigation found that hundreds of TikTok accounts made livestreams showing children asking for donations.
Through it, the BBC has reported a total of 30 accounts featuring children asking for donations, but the TikTok system says the action does not violate any policy.
Like to be informed that the investigation carried out by the BBC focuses on the victims of Syrian refugees.
Following on from that, TikTok has now issued new guidelines by setting the minimum age limit for livestreams to 16 years and above, and even plans to allow only adults to send gifts in the future.
A TikTok spokesperson said that the company is committed to preventing any 'harm or exploitation' of minors on its platform.
However, TikTok still hasn't issued clear guidelines on how they will implement the age limit.
