Russian fighter jet crashes into apartment, 13 killed

 Russian authorities say at least 13 people were killed when their fighter jet crashed into an apartment block in the southern Russian city of Yeysk.


68 victims were rescued and 19 injured victims are being treated in the accident that happened on Monday afternoon.


It was also reported that three children were among the victims who died in the accident that happened in the nine-story apartment.


Two Su-34 jet pilots who were conducting flight training managed to save themselves by jumping out of the plane before it crashed into buildings.



The Russian Defense Minister stated that based on reports from the two pilots of the fighter plane, the cause of the plane crash was caused by a fire in one of the engines during takeoff.


360 victims consisting of high school students around the area were also among the rescued victims.


The city of Yeysk is a military training area for the Russian Navy and is located close to the war zone in eastern Ukraine.


Russia's Investigative Committee said they have opened investigation papers and will send an investigative team to the scene.
