Google officially launched the online transaction service facility 'Google Wallet' for Android and Wear OS users in Malaysia.

Like other eWallet facilities, it offers online payment services including digital support directly through Visa issued cards.

According to Visa's statement, holders of Hong Leong Bank credit cards and Public Bank credit and debit cards can now make transactions in physical stores and online using Google Wallet.

In addition, HSBC and HSBC Amanah credit card holders can also link their Visa cards to the eWallet service in the coming months.

For the record, since the last Covid-19 pandemic, Visa reported that 60% of Malaysian users chose mobile payment transactions with 58% saying it was safer and 53% liking the convenience.

In the Visa 2021 Consumer Payment Attitudes report, it is also said that 70% of all transactions in Malaysia are contactless.

Visa Malaysia branch director Ng Kong Boon commented that the achievement was successfully achieved based on the positive attitude of the country's users towards mobile payments, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic hit.

In addition, the Managing Director of Google Malaysia also cited the statistical expectation that the country's online payment service is expected to reach $200 billion by 2025.

As of this launch, Google Malaysia says the eWallet can be downloaded for Android 5.2 and above users on the PlayStore.
