The operator of Domino's Pizza (DP) in Russia is considering pulling out of the country, ten months after Moscow invaded Ukraine.
DP Eurasia, which also owns chain franchises in Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan, is 'assessing its presence' in the country, while also examining the impact of sanctions on its business.
This is because, global businesses that have retreated earlier from Russia bear huge costs.
McDonald's, for example, posted losses of up to $1.4 billion after closing 850 of its restaurants, citing a humanitarian crisis and an unpredictable operating environment caused by the Ukraine war.
In March, DP cut all investments in Russia where it has about 172 stores, leaving the operation to stand on its own.
It also stopped taking royalties from Russian stores, as did the overall owner of Domino's in the US.
However, it has come under fire for keeping business in the country to protect its staff and customers.
