'It's like a crazy person saying he's not crazy.'
It seems that the Chinese style strongly denies the reappearance of the original variant of Covid-19 and Delta as the cause of the surge in infection cases there.
The matter was expressed by the director of the Institute of Viral Diseases, China Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC China), which is XU Wenbo who is also an indirect spokesperson for the government.
He commented that the dynamic monitoring done showed that the Delta variant is not prevalent in China and that there is no Delta mutation linked to the Omicron variant there.
According to the Chinese CDC's previous report that in 1,142 cases that were surveyed and sampled, Omicron variants BA.5.2 and B.7 were the most dominant chains there, accounting for about 80% of infection cases.
It is similar to the survey of Pan Yang of the Beijing Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention who said the chain found to dominate the city was the Omicron BF.7 and BA.5.2 variants.
In the meantime, the Chinese government has reportedly never stopped surveillance of the domestic epidemic chain of whole genome sequencing to detect any new mutations.
He added that most of the patients treated at the hospital were of the Omicron variant.
