"The year 2022 will lose billions, I hope 2022 is not a trillion anyway."

A report published by the Web3 platform, Immunefi on “Crypto Losses in 2022” has seen that cryptocurrency losses faced last year due to hacking and fraud amounted to $3.9 billion.

Through observation, 134 hacking incidents have caused $3.7 billion to be lost while 34 scams have lost $134 million, but it should be noted that most of the lost funds are due to Ronin Network, BNB Chain, Wormhole, and FTX.

While the Terra and FTX crisis that rocked the crypto market has caused decentralized finance (DeFi) and centralized finance (CeFi) to face the worst temps in 2022.

Reportedly, DeFi is the main target of hackers as its losses exceed 80.5% compared to CeFi at 19.5%.

To clarify, DeFi lost $3.18 billion in 2022 from $2 billion in 2021, while CeFi lost $6 billion from $768.8 million.

Next, blockchains such as BNB Chain and Ethereum (ETH) were also affected when they each faced 65 and 49 incidents including Solana (SOL) 12 incidents in 2022.

Overall, crypto losses in 2023 probably wouldn't reach billions if every company related to digital assets put security first.
