Australia managed to beat the first country to accept Bitcoin (BTC), El Salvador by launching 216 cryptocurrency ATM installations before entering 2023.
For context, the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele acted to install more than 200 crypto ATMs across the country as part of his country's efforts to make BTC legal tender.
This move has made El Salvador the third largest crypto ATM hub after the United States (USA) and Canada, but now the country cannot maintain its position if Spanish and Australian ATMs surpass them.
The proof, Spain installed 215 crypto ATMs in October 2022 and increased the figure again to 226.
This rise is said to have caused El Salvador to become the fourth largest crypto hub but its throne may not last long if Australia properly overcomes the country.
Altogether, Australia registered 219 crypto ATMs on January 1, 2023 having launched the 99 ATMs three months before 2022 came to an end.
Meanwhile, the number of crypto ATMs worldwide is 38,602, of which around 6,071 have been installed as of 2022.
