"For the opportunity at NatGeo, who knows NFT will succeed later."

Hundreds of fans expressed their outrage when National Geographic (NatGeo) launched its first non-fungible token (NFT) collection on Polygon featuring the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and works from 16 top photographers.

The statement released on NatGeo's official social media account about NFT has been met with a large number of negative comments when some individuals say that the digital collection they want to release is a fraud or simply money laundering.

This follows because Netflix once created free NFTs as part of its promotion for the latest season of "Stranger Things", but unfortunately the company saw a downturn last year.

NatGeo reportedly has 256 million followers on Instagram, 49 million on Facebook and over 2.6 million on Twitter.

Although 3,000 Instagram comments and 200 Facebook comments were negative, some NFT artists supported NatGeo's new move and called the critics insufficiently knowledgeable about NFT.

However so far, most individuals intending to mint NFT NatGeo have been informed that they have encountered technical problems.

Meanwhile, NatGeo is seen launching NFTs while Polygon's total digital assets traded last month saw a drastic 80.5% plunge at $15.39 from a year-ago high of $79.45.
