"It seems that ETH can go up after this upgrade or is it tasteless too?"

During the All Core Developers Execution Layer (ACDE) meeting, Ethereum (ETH) lead developer Tim Beiko finally set April 12 as the official date for the long-awaited upgrade of Shapella (Shanghai and Capella) on the mainnet*.

*Term used to describe a fully functional and operational blockchain

The Shanghai upgrade will allow validators to move ETH staked on the Beacon Chain to the execution layer.

While it also introduces new functionality at the execution (Shanghai) and consensus (Capella) layers, the Shapella upgrade will bring changes to both layers including Engine API**.

**Added alternative implementations of cryptographic primitives, especially for integrating hardware crypto devices

After the ETH client software was found to have issues when the Shapella upgrade on the Goerli token was implemented, Beiko told validators to focus their attention on updating their client software.

In the meantime, Lido Finance, the liquidity staking platform announced that the production of Lido staking ETH (stETH) may have to be postponed until May following the time spent on conducting the second phase audit.

Another comment from Lido, stETH production will not happen on the mainnet until all audits are completed.

As of this writing, the price of ETH managed to climb by 3.75% to reach $1,712 in the last 24 hours with a market capitalization of $209 billion and a gain of around 19.84% over the last week.
