As the issue of BRICS gets hotter, 19 countries have started to show interest in joining the alliance.

South Africa's ambassador to the group, Anil Sooklal told that 13 countries have officially applied to join the group.

While another 6 countries have informally expressed interest, adding that they are receiving applications for participation every day.

BRICS consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa is said to have the potential to beat the G7 in dominating the world economy.

In fact, they are also trying to reduce the world's dependence on the US dollar currency which is considered unprofitable.

BRICS will hold its annual summit in South Africa on June 2-3 to discuss efforts to enlarge the alliance by admitting more members.

Discussions on the expansion of BRICS were originally initiated by China last year, where it tried to build diplomatic influence to counter the dominance of developed countries in the United Nations (UN).
