China's efforts to broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia intensified this week, with Beijing's special envoy to visit both countries on a peace mission.
China's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Beijing's special representative for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, is visiting Europe for talks on a political solution to the Ukraine crisis.
It is understood that the envoy will next go to Ukraine, Russia, Poland, France and Germany for discussions on the political solution to the crisis in Kyiv.
Despite this, there are doubts about China's ability to manage and resolve the conflict which is seen as increasingly complicated.
Political analysts and China watchers argue that Beijing does not care who wins the war or what the peace agreement looks like.
What matters to him is his success in becoming an international partner that brings Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table and as an intermediary to end the war.
