Wondering Why the New Zealand Dollar is Soaring? Here's Why!

Continued strengthening in the New Zealand labor market has supported the kiwi dollar trading higher in the Asian session.

Most recently, data from Statistics New Zealand revealed that the country's unemployment rate remained steady at 3.4% in the first quarter, compared to expectations for an increase to 3.5%.

In addition, employment growth also showed an increase of 0.8% in the last quarter, better than expected to remain at a 0.5% increase as in the previous quarter.

As a result, it supports expectations that the central bank will continue to raise interest rates at its policy meeting later this month.

At its previous meeting, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) surprised the market by raising rates by 50 basis points, missing expectations for a rise of just 25 basis points.

At the time of writing, the New Zealand dollar was trading higher at around 0.6240 against the US dollar.
