Less than 24 hours after the launch of Threads, Twitter threatened to sue Meta over its newly launched social media app.
In a letter sent by a lawyer on behalf of Twitter, Meta is accused of illegally using its trade secrets and intellectual property.
The letter, written by Alex Spiro, alleges that Meta hired former Twitter employees who had access to confidential information that may have been used to develop Threads.
"We have serious concerns that Meta has engaged in the systematic, intentional, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter's trade secrets and other intellectual property," Spiro said in the letter.
He added that Twitter intends to enforce its intellectual property rights and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any of its trade secrets or other confidential information.
Responding to the allegations, Meta spokesman Andy Stone denied the involvement of any former Twitter employees on the team that developed Threads.
Meanwhile, Twitter owner Elon Musk said "Competition is good, cheating is not", in response to a tweet citing the news.
Threads, a text-based chat app has gained significant attention and received millions of registrations within the first 24 hours of its launch.
