"Pity Buterin, he is not responsible for anything."
Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin's X social media account has reportedly been hacked causing the victim to face a loss of over $691,000 just after clicking on a link.
Explained further, the hacker has placed a malicious web link looking like a phishing attack in Buterin's new tweet he did recently about celebrating the arrival of Proto-Danksharding* to ETH.
*Is a temporary step towards full Danksharding, aimed at reducing transaction costs and increasing throughput
The hackers also shared malicious links that offered non-fungible tokens (NFTs) available for free to lure victims into connecting their wallets before stealing all their funds.
Following the incident, ETH developer Bok Khoo or better known as Bokku Poobah has suffered losses in his NFT CryptoPunk collection which currently has a floor price of 46.99 ETH worth $76,837.
Not only that, the most valuable NFT stolen so far was CryptoPunk #3983 worth 153.62 ETH equal to $250,543.
As such, an X platform user called Satoshi 767 who claimed Buterin did not implement sufficient security measures for his account has said that the co-founder of ETH should be held accountable and compensate those affected.
However, prominent blockchain investigator ZachXBT's high-profile view of Buterin has made him vulnerable to various forms of hacking attempts since he is a big enough target that insiders can pay.
