More and more people are becoming familiar with cryptocurrency airdrops as many projects and protocols try to weather the bear market through that approach.
Here are the four biggest digital asset airdrops in 2023.
Arbitrum
Arbitrum (ARB) in March 2023 did airdrops worth hundreds of millions of dollars, among the projects that benefited from the first airdrops were Treasure DAO, SushiSwap, Dopex, Radiant, Balancer and Uniswap.
The airdrops that committed $2 billion of ARB to the Arbitrum project and its community have paid off as the total value locked (TVL) on the network has doubled since the airdrops began to reach $2.5 billion.
Blur
Blur (BLUR), the Ethereum non-fungible token (NFT) market shook up the NFT ecosystem at the end of last year by leveraging benefits based on transaction volume and eliminating creator fees, which are mandatory taxes.
After BLUR's first airdrop launched in February 2023, most users traded the same NFT repeatedly to claim over $1 million in tokens each while the second airdrop in November awarded BLUR users $8.4 million.
All told, the project is donating $818 million worth of tokens to users by 2023.
Celestia
Although the beginning of Celestia (TIA) airdrops in late October was rather lackluster, the token launched on October 31 has doubled from $2.18 to $4 over the following week.
After that, the price that managed to pass $10 followed by $12.83 and $15 on Christmas Eve has increased TIA's market capitalization up to $1.88 billion in less than two months later giving TIA's airdrop recipient one of the best returns of the year.
Jito
Jito's DeFi platform based on the JTO governance token created a frenzy in the Solana (SOL) ecosystem when the project announced its plans to introduce the digital asset.
When the airdrops launched on December 7, users rushed to claim 90 million JTO tokens worth $225 million on the first day and their collective value rose by $312 million while the price of JTO is now trading at $2.39.
