Proposed changes to Malaysia's housing laws may impose a travel ban on developers of abandoned housing projects, as mentioned by Deputy Housing Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu.
This is part of the government's plan to take tougher action against developers who leave projects unfinished.
The amendment would allow the government to prevent blacklisted developers from leaving the country and freeze their accounts.
Additionally, these developers will be barred from applying for new licenses.
Information about abandoned projects and the developers involved will be publicly available through the National Housing Data Banking System (Shadow), helping buyers and banks make informed decisions.
As of September 30 this year, there are 113 abandoned housing projects across Malaysia, affecting more than 30,000 housing units and nearly 16,000 buyers.
The special task force has successfully restored 14 projects, bringing home 1,900 units costing approximately RM574.79 million.
These measures are intended to protect home buyers and hold developers accountable for incomplete housing projects.
