Teresa Goody Guillén, a veteran of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is among the candidates chosen by President Donald Trump to lead the SEC department that will potentially bring about changes in the approach to cryptocurrencies.

He is a partner at law firm BakerHostetler and co-head of the firm's blockchain management.

Most of the crypto companies put full trust in him to lead because of his experience in representing blockchain companies as well as Wall Street firms against the SEC agency before.

According to the co-founder of Masa Finance, Brendan Playford said Teresa is the best candidate out of all the people being considered and she can make an immediate difference to the SEC.

Goody Guillén is on the competitive shortlist to replace SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, who is set to step down before Trump's January 20 inauguration.

The SEC chairman generally resigns during the transition of a new administration. During the campaign, Trump vowed to fire Gensler on the first day of his presidency.

Several other individuals have the potential to fill the vacancy such as Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP partner Robert Stebbins, Paul Hastings partner Brad Bondi, former SEC commissioner Paul Atkins, Robinhood's Chief Legal Officer Dan Gallagher and former acting Eye Controller Wang is Brian Brooks.
