The Malaysian government recently introduced the i-Lindung program to help the M40 group deal with rising medical costs.
The plan can be subscribed to through the EPF Account and targets those earning between RM5,251 and RM11,819 per month.
According to Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, the program offers life and critical illness insurance at prices lower than the market.
The protection plan also covers senior citizens up to the age of 99, providing long-term health assurance.
To date, more than 144,000 EPF members have used their Sejahtera Account to subscribe to this plan, making it a positive start.
The government has promised to improve the program based on the suggestions and proposals that it has studied to ensure that it remains relevant and accessible to all groups.
This measure is expected to ease the financial burden of M40 families while ensuring they have adequate protection ahead of Malaysia's status as an elderly nation in 2040.
However, will this plan be sustainable in meeting the people's health needs in the long term?
Or is it just a temporary solution to ease the pressure of the cost of living?
Only time will tell.
