Prices must comply with regulations, don't exaggerate!

The Kedah Ministry of Domestic Trade (KPDN) is actively tightening enforcement after finding that there were more than 1,600 complaints this year regarding price hikes and shortages of goods.

Among the main issues highlighted are subsidized cooking oil and price manipulation of controlled goods.

Ahead of the upcoming Christmas festivities, 14 major goods, including mutton, cabbage, and potatoes, are now under strict price control through the 2024 Christmas Season Price Control Scheme (SHMMP), which is effective from December 23 to 27.

The state KPDN director, Muhammad Nizam Jamaluddin, stressed that traders must comply with price controls and use pink price labels for controlled goods.

To ensure fairness, a total of 187 officers will monitor prices in markets and shopping malls, with penalties for traders who violate regulations.

This action is part of the ministry's efforts to curb consumer exploitation practices, which have led to several cases since October.
