Penang Gets RM199 Million Green Light From Federal Government

Penang has received federal government approval for six infrastructure projects worth RM199.14 million under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5), 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12).


Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that the state government has applied for RM17.67 billion in funds, with RM2.8 billion to be allocated for projects next year.


Among the initiatives approved are the renovation of Dewan Seri Pinang and Galeri TYT worth RM52 million, as well as the construction of structures to prevent coastal erosion in Batu Ferringhi and Tanjung Bungah at a cost of RM61.2 million.


The construction of a flyover at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah has also been approved at an estimated cost of RM75 million, in addition to the construction of a pitch at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Batu in Teluk Kumbar worth RM1.5 million.


Other projects include the addition of air conditioning at Hospital Kepala Batas and the upgrading of the water tank system at Hospital Balik Pulau.


Chow also informed that previous approvals under the Fourth Rolling Plan had allocated RM72.6 million for the construction of a new Health Clinic in Bayan Lepas.


The approval is evidence of progress in Penang's infrastructure development plans.
