Apple has updated its maps, replacing the Gulf of Mexico with ‘Gulf of America’ for its users in the United States (US).
The change was due to an order issued by President Donald Trump.
Users checking Apple Maps from within the US will now see the new name, while users in other countries will still see “Gulf of Mexico” on their maps.
Google also made a similar change earlier in the week, but unlike Apple, Google allows users outside the US to see both names.
Trump, who returned to the White House, did not wait long to sign an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico and restore the name Denali to Mount McKinley.
However, the change has drawn discontent from Mexico, with President Claudia Sheinbaum announcing plans to formally dispute the decision with Google.
