FBM KLCI Recovers, Pulls Top Stocks Since Open

Bursa Malaysia maintained its positive momentum at midday led by gains in Public Bank Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd.


At 3.25am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI rose 0.78% or 11.91 points to 1,567.57 compared to Tuesday's close of 1,555.66.


The main index moved between 1,560.56 and 1,569.61 in the morning trading session.


Gainers outpaced losers in the broader market at 542 to 359 while 388 counters were unchanged.


According to Maybank Investment Bank, most indices turned positive, with the construction sector emerging as the best performer led by Gamuda Bhd and IJM Corp Bhd. However, the energy sector continued its downward slide, marking its fourth consecutive day of declines.


Looking ahead, Bank Negara Malaysia's overnight policy rate announcement is scheduled for tomorrow, which could set the tone for further market moves.


The index board bounced from the red trend at the opening bell with the FBM100 adding 0.63% to 11,401.59. FBM Emas rose 0.61% to 11,615.30 and FBM Ace rose 0.37% to 4,568.39.
