Malaysia Airlines & Batik Air Cancel Flights to India & Pakistan

Malaysia's two major airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air, have been forced to slam on the brakes, immediately suspending flights to Amritsar and Lahore after a small war broke out between India and Pakistan, claiming at least 36 lives so far.

Missile attacks, artillery fire and cross-border fighting have forced many international airlines to change routes, including Malaysia Airlines, which is now forced to refuel in Doha to fly to major destinations such as London and Paris.

Amritsar Airport has also been closed until May 9 for security reasons.

The drastic decision comes as concerns grow that South Asian airspace is now the world's latest hot zone.

So far, Islamabad has claimed 26 civilians have been killed in attacks from India, while New Delhi has reported at least 8 deaths from gunfire from Pakistan.

Malaysia may be far from the battlefield but the ripples have reached KLIA.

Is this the start of a larger regional air crisis?
