Malaysia-Japan Strengthen Cooperation in Arbitration

The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department (BHEUU) reported that the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and the Japan Arbitration Association (JAA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen legal cooperation in the field of arbitration.


BHEUU, through a statement last night, announced that the signing of the MoU was witnessed by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said during a high-impact three-day working visit to Japan starting on May 15.


The signing of the MoU, among others, is a formality for cooperation in the field of commercial arbitration, capacity building and joint training initiatives between AIAC and JAA which will then be strengthened at the Ministerial level during the Malaysia-Japan Special Dialogue on Legal Cooperation next August.


In its statement, several arbitration institutions, recognized by the governments of both countries, to create deeper cooperation in the efforts of the MADANI Government to translate the results of the dialogue into actual implementation.


In the same statement, Azalina said Malaysia and Japan agreed that true success in legal cooperation is determined by action.


Malaysia and Japan have deep bilateral relations, especially in legal cooperation. In conjunction with the ASEAN-Malaysia Chairmanship 2025, this visit reflects Malaysia's continued commitment to strengthening legal institutions that support sustainable development and regional integration
