Malaysia and the East African country, Kenya have held a bilateral trade meeting after both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in exporting Malaysian palm oil to the African country.
The agreement was sealed after the Minister of Plantations and Commodities, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani together with the Malaysian delegation held a meeting with the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry of Kenya, Lee Kinyanjui.
The two politicians also plan to open the country's palm oil processing center in Mombasa Industrial Park, Kenya.
Johari informed that the discussion also touched on the potential expansion of the Malaysian palm oil market to other East African countries such as Uganda and Tanzania which are currently showing encouraging demand.
Johari stated that in 2024, palm oil and palm oil products managed to contribute almost 95 percent of Malaysia's total exports to Kenya with a value of RM5.2 billion.
He also commented that the statement has successfully proven the great potential of palm oil in the regional market.
The Kenyan government has expressed interest in making Mombasa a regional palm oil processing hub that has the potential to increase trade volumes and expand employment opportunities for the people.
