The Malaysian government will establish 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide, including Sabah and Sarawak, by the end of 2025.
The statement was confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof himself after attending a dinner at a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand with 200 Malaysians.
Fadillah informed that Malaysia aims to become a regional hub for EV production and innovation and strengthen the entire EV value chain.
Next, Fadillah discussed the government's focus on upgrading the country's charging infrastructure to boost EV sales and attract investors.
Fadillah also emphasized that the National Investment Aspiration aims to make the country a major global supply center in developing local industries and exploring high-quality investments.
He believed that Malaysia has great potential in EV sales and attracting investors, while acknowledging the challenges of high demand for direct current (DC) chargers compared to alternating current (AC) chargers.
The government is also working with PETRONAS and other industries to ensure sufficient charging facilities across the country.
