On Wednesday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spoke with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg regarding the Petronas-Petros matter based on previously agreed principles.

Anwar said they would immediately hold discussions to finalize the issue after Abang Johari returned from an official visit to London, United Kingdom (UK).

Anwar commented that all parties should postpone any actions and statements based on common interests.

He is optimistic that this problem can be resolved with prudence and stands firm on a healthy and meaningful path of discourse.

Abang Johari stated that he and the PM have reached a commitment to find a solution to the issue.

He also stressed that the solution to the problem is based on an approach to both parties that is carried out in a harmonious and fair manner.

Abang Johari also expressed the action involved based on the sincerity that the country's oil and gas revenues should be shared equitably.

The statement was made after he attended the ‘Townhall Agenda Sarawak’ session in conjunction with the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2025, UK Edition program in London yesterday.

Meanwhile, Petronas received a legal notice from the Sarawak government after its subsidiary, Petronas Carigali, was accused of operating illegally and violating Section 7(e) of the Sarawak Gas Distribution Ordinance 2016.

Petronas Carigali was given 21 days to obtain the license, failing which could lead to financial penalties under Section 21A.
