Chinese President Xi Jinping will begin a four-day visit to Russia starting today, which will be Xi's 11th visit to the country as president.

The reason President Xi is going to Russia is to provide President Vladimir Putin with important diplomatic support as he seeks to prove that Russia is not isolated globally.

Top Kremlin aide Ushakov said Putin and Xi will also discuss the "most sensitive" issues including energy cooperation and the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline.

Xi is set to sign a number of agreements with Russia, making China Russia's largest trading partner.

The People's Republic of China buys more gas and oil from Russia than any other country. This situation makes Moscow an economic lifeline for China as Russia's role in helping to navigate the embargo imposed on goods due to its war in Ukraine.

Despite US President Donald Trump's efforts to restore ties with Russia, Putin is expected to continue strengthening cooperation with Xi in countering US dominance.

The two leaders shared the view that US dominance must be challenged, and they sought to build a closer strategic alliance to achieve that goal.

Xi stressed that the two countries should maintain the post-war international order and jointly resist disruptions that could undermine China-Russia friendship.

However, Trump's special envoy Keith Kellogg said Washington would try to disrupt the close relationship between Russia and China.

The statement was met with Xi and Putin confirming a notice of "unlimited partnership" that described strong cooperation beyond the boundaries between the two countries.

Putin is expected to visit China in late August or early September this year.
