The Sarawak state government has accused Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, the main arm of national oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), of violating state laws.
The charge was made for an offence involving gas distribution, according to a report by Utusan Malaysia.
The offence was alleged under Section 7(e) of the Gas Distribution Act 2016 involving the operation of a plant owned by Petronas Carigali in Miri.
The charge was made after the state of Sarawak alleged that the plant was operating illegally and without government permission.
Section 7 of the regulation stipulates the licensing of gas distribution activities and subsection (e) covers activities of managing, constructing, maintaining gas equipment and pipelines as well as gas distribution systems.
So far, there has been no comment from the ministry or Petronas on the issue.
