The Sarawak State Government announced that the state's workers will be offered free education starting next year if they wish to pursue full-time studies.
Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg stated that interested workers can apply for undergraduate studies at universities owned by the Sarawak Government.
Abang Johari said that the initiative was implemented to develop quality human capital and improve the skills and qualifications of workers through the concept of lifelong learning.
Abang Johari commented that free education is allocated to full-time programs and not Distance Education (PJJ).
Abang Johari stressed that the studies are only covered by the government if they accept an offer to study from the university.
He also added that this condition is open to all ages, in addition to having the status of a Sarawakian as stated on their identity card.
The government is implementing this free education program at Swinburne University of Technology, i-CATS University College, Curtin University, Sarawak Centre of Excellence in Technology (CENTEXS) and Sarawak University of Technology (UTS).
