Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) invested RM25 billion in Sarawak last year, including nine hydrocarbon discoveries and two major productions in the Kasawari and Jerun fields.

The positive development was confirmed by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan during the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.

Awang Tengah said Petronas was strengthening Sarawak’s role in the country’s energy sector through frontier exploration and strategic collaborations to support energy security and long-term economic growth.

Awang Tengah said Sarawak recognised natural gas as an important fuel in the global journey towards net zero carbon emissions and was committed to the following developments.

He discussed the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) which has successfully harnessed natural gas resources by forming 60 percent of Malaysia’s reserves to enhance energy security, drive industrialization and attract sustainable investments.

He also added that the RM100 million gas pipeline in Bintulu would be implemented in the near future to expand access to clean and affordable energy for homes and businesses.
