Proud of the results of the Petronas and Japan study, Sarawak is now continuing to move towards becoming ASEAN’s green hydrogen hub.
Sarawak has once again proven its capabilities in the world of green energy — this time by successfully reducing the energy consumption to produce hydrogen from 60kWh/kg to just 30kWh/kg.
This new technology was developed through a joint study between Petronas and a Japanese company, using membrane technology that has been proven to save significant energy.
Sarawak Premier, Abang Johari Openg, described this achievement as an important step to bring Sarawak closer to the efficient and sustainable production of clean hydrogen.
In fact, he is optimistic that the figure can be further reduced to just 10kWh/kg through a new collaboration with Siemens Energy from Germany.
According to a report by The Borneo Post, Abang Johari said that this more efficient production of hydrogen is not just for local use, but also as a contribution from Sarawak and Malaysia to a more sustainable world.
This move is part of Sarawak’s long-term strategy to emerge as a leading green hydrogen hub in ASEAN, leveraging its hydropower strengths and growing international collaboration network.
With a clear goal, cutting-edge technology and the support of global partners from Japan to Germany, Sarawak is now in a prime position to be among the leaders of the green energy revolution in Southeast Asia and perhaps… the world.
