59kg of Gold Collateral ‘Missing’ from Bank Safe!

59 kilograms of gold from the Canara Bank branch in Mangoli was reported missing from its safe.


Vijayapura District Police Chief, Laxman B Nimbargi informed that the 59kg of gold that was missing was a loan collateral kept by an individual at the bank.


He further said that the incident was first noticed by the bank staff on May 26 when the premises started operations after a two-day weekend holiday.


Based on the full report, when the office assistant returned to clean the branch, he found that the door lock had been cut.


Further inspection by the bank later revealed that 59kg of gold collateral belonging to a customer had disappeared from the safe.


They suspect that the theft occurred on the night between May 24 and May 25.


He explained that eight teams have been formed to conduct the investigation and assured that they will arrest the suspect and take the case to the next level
