90 Minutes of Trump & Xi’s Joint Call – But Why the Two Different Reactions?

“Very positive,” Trump said. “Needs to be fixed,” Xi said.

After months of silence, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping finally spoke again but strangely their tones were clearly different.

In a 90-minute phone call, the two leaders agreed to ‘reset’ the trade talks that had been held in Geneva earlier, opening a new chapter to avoid an escalating tariff war, with US tariffs on Chinese goods already reaching 145%.

Trump described the conversation as “very positive” and announced plans to meet face-to-face, possibly in China, with Xi also inviting the US First Lady.

However, while Trump focused on “great compatibility” and the rare earth minerals issue, the message from Beijing was much more emphatic: “right this ship!”

President Xi warned of “disruption and destruction” in relations, urging Washington to be careful on the Taiwan issue or risk conflict.

The call follows Trump’s aggressive actions in imposing global tariffs, canceling Chinese student visas, and accusing China of violating the Geneva peace agreement earlier this week.

Beijing said Trump was being unfair and making baseless accusations.

One phone call – two different reactions. But what is certain is that the talks appear to be far from reaching an agreement.
