AirAsia is expected to finalise an order for at least 100 Airbus aircraft in talks to be signed at the Paris Airshow next week.
The deal could be the first step towards the introduction of Airbus' smallest jet, the A220.
AirAsia said it was considering adding smaller aircraft to its fleet to meet regional route needs.
AirAsia has not taken any orders since the pandemic, taking only a few deliveries and reorganising its order book due to financial constraints.
The airline has been hit hard by the pandemic's travel restrictions and was classified as financially distressed by Bursa Malaysia in 2022.
Capital A is now planning to sell AirAsia's business to AirAsia X to consolidate its long-haul and short-haul operations under the AirAsia brand.
