The United States (US) on Sunday, has acted to launch a massive airstrike on three major Iranian nuclear facilities, namely Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.
This attack was confirmed by US President Donald Trump himself through his Truth Social by announcing that all targets in Iran had been successfully destroyed and all aircraft have now safely exited Iranian airspace.
Fordow, Iran's most protected site located in the mountains near Qom, was the main target.
According to an official statement, a total of 6 B-2 Spirit stealth aircraft were used in the operation, each carrying two GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bombs, making a total of 12 bombs dropped on the underground site.
Each MOP bomb weighs around 13,600 kilograms with the ability to penetrate concrete to a depth of 200 feet (60 meters).
In total, nearly 163,200 kilograms of bombs were used in one night, making it the largest conventional airstrike by the US since World War II.
Although Trump has repeatedly denied that he would go to war with Israel against Iran, he is understood to have been preparing for several days before launching the attack early Saturday morning.
Trump insisted: “Now is the time for peace.”
