Due to Trump's Early Departure, Global Issues Fail to Be Resolved at the G7 Conference

The G7 summit ended with a failure to reach a consensus on major world issues, following the actions of United States (US) President Donald Trump, who withdrew early from the conference in Kananaskis, Canada.

The joint statement issued only emphasized that Iran should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons, in addition to calling for peace in the Middle East. However, no collective statement was issued regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy saw an open appeal for the international community to put pressure on Russia to begin peace talks. Ukraine also expressed its readiness to implement an unconditional ceasefire.

However, the US reportedly rejected the proposed joint statement on Ukraine, saying it was pursuing separate diplomatic paths with Russia.

The scheduled meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy was also canceled, although the US managed to sign an agreement to gain access to Ukrainian mineral resources before leaving the conference.

The other six G7 leaders from the UK, France, Germany, Canada, Japan and Italy continued their discussions on global issues, including mineral trade policy and the risks of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to jobs and the environment.

The result?

Disappointingly, with no concrete results, only loose commitments.

French President Emmanuel Macron also warned against military action to overthrow the Iranian government, fearing it would trigger greater regional instability.

Ironically, the US has been so aggressive in its intervention in the Israeli-Iranian conflict, but has refused to work with its own allies to resolve the Ukraine issue.

If G7 solidarity cannot be sustained, how can the world rely on this coalition to lead the way for a global future?
