Malaysia Records RM51.5 Billion Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2024!

Malaysia recorded a net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) of RM51.5 billion in 2024, up from RM38.6 billion in 2023.


The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) announced that the total income of foreign companies in Malaysia also jumped to RM99.8 billion from RM88.4 billion in 2023.


The increase was driven by income from equity shares and investment funds amounting to RM95.9 billion, as well as interest income worth RM3.9 billion.


According to DOSM, the country's total accumulated FDI position increased to RM995.5 billion as of the end of 2024, compared to RM924.0 billion in the previous year.


Furthermore, debt instruments recorded an inflow of RM23.5 billion, bringing the accumulated amount to RM162.6 billion.


The services industry also showed the highest FDI investment receipts of RM39.4 billion during the year, with the total in the sector reaching RM524.8 billion.


The Asian region managed to record the highest investment of RM50.3 billion, with major contributions from Hong Kong and Singapore.
