Malaysia to be Appointed as UN-Habitat President

Malaysia will be crowned as the President of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat) Conference for the term 2025–2029.


The Facebook page of the Minister of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Nga Kor Ming, when announcing the matter, said that this great success is the highest recognition of the world to Malaysia.


In his statement, the Malaysian delegation was given the honor of delivering six speeches including the keynote speech at this global conference, thus creating history and raising the country's prestige.


Even more proud, Malaysia will be crowned as the President of UN-Habitat for the term 2026–2029, which is a great recognition of the country's commitment to the issue of sustainable urbanization.


Earlier, the media reported that the country's delegation led by the Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming in Nairobi, Kenya is mobilizing efforts to ensure that the historic election becomes a reality.


For the record, UN-Habitat is the highest body under the United Nations (UN) that formulates global policies related to sustainable urbanization and human settlements.


The presidency is held on a rotating basis among regional groups within the UN system.


The current president is from Latin America and the Caribbean, represented by Mexico.


The next president will come from the Asia-Pacific region and will serve for four years from 2025 to 2029.
