South Korea's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday issued a special travel warning for the entire Iranian region following the escalating military threat between Iran and Israel.
The warning has been raised to Level 3, advising South Koreans to immediately leave Iran and postpone all travel plans to the country.
The move came into effect at 1pm local time in a sign of deep concern for the safety of their citizens in the volatile region.
Several other countries such as Japan and Germany have also issued similar travel advisories, signaling global concern over a large-scale conflict in West Asia.
A ministry spokesman said in a statement that the ministry would continue to monitor developments in West Asia and take various initiatives to ensure the safety of South Koreans.
The effort also demonstrates the South Korean government's continued commitment to protecting its citizens abroad, especially in an uncertain geopolitical situation.
