The ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump on Monday night clearly failed to work when both countries, Israel and Iran, fired at each other early Tuesday morning, causing casualties.
More surprisingly, both countries have now denied that they ever agreed to the agreement.
Trump slammed the actions of both sides after the attacks continued until late in the evening, killing nine people in the Gilan region, Iran, and five in the city of Beersheba, Israel.
The Israeli Defense Ministry blamed Iran for the violation after two missiles were launched towards Israeli territory and in response, Israel announced that it would take military measures to defend its security.
Iran, on the other hand, defended its actions as legitimate and based on the right to self-defense.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the retaliatory attacks were carried out following the US bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites last weekend.
Iran also attacked Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which houses thousands of US troops, but no casualties were reported.
US Vice President JD Vance slammed Iran, describing military action against Iran as part of the “Trump Doctrine” of diplomacy first, military force later.
In response to Trump’s statement regarding the ceasefire, both countries denied that they had ever agreed to abide by any ceasefire agreement.
Iran insisted that they would only stop the attacks if Israel stopped its aggression against its people, while an Israeli spokesman said that no formal agreement had been signed.
Despite reports that peace talks were underway with the involvement of third parties including Qatar, the reality is that the bombs are still ringing.
