Uber is now ready to join the digital economy by announcing plans to accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a payment method.
The announcement was made by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi on June 3, 2025, describing the move as part of the company's strategy to expand payment options and meet the needs of global users.
This move also shows Uber's intention to move in line with changing global usage trends, where cryptocurrencies are increasingly accepted in daily transactions.
If implemented, users will have the opportunity to pay for Uber services using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, in addition to traditional methods such as credit cards, PayPal and Apple Pay.
However, Uber explained that the company does not plan to hold or invest in the cryptocurrency.
Instead, the main focus is on providing user-friendly alternative facilities. In an effort to that end, Uber is also considering launching its own application or digital wallet specifically for managing crypto payments on its platform.
For now, the official implementation date has not been announced, but Khosrowshahi did not rule out the possibility that a pilot program will be started in several regions first before a full global launch.
