Less than 48 hours after Operation “Spiderweb” was launched against Russia, Ukraine has reportedly launched another drone attack on military facilities in the Bryansk and Kursk regions, near Russia’s western border.
Moscow is now losing patience. Several senior Kremlin figures have called for the peace talks in Istanbul to be halted immediately, describing the continued Ukrainian attacks as proof that Kyiv is not interested in any diplomatic solution.
A Russian Defense Ministry spokesman claimed that air defense systems had successfully intercepted several drones, but confirmed damage to logistics facilities and support aircraft.
There has been no official confirmation from Ukraine, but military sources said the attack was a “second reminder” to Russia that there is no safe place for its air power.
The situation has raised new concerns about the peace talks, which are still deadlocked after the second round in Istanbul.
Western analysts have warned that an attack on a Russian strategic bomber base could challenge Moscow’s nuclear doctrine.
Russia has previously insisted that any attack on military infrastructure that disrupts the nuclear response could trigger a ballistic missile response.
George Beebe, a former CIA officer, said the situation could escalate into a direct confrontation between Russia and the US unless Donald Trump intervenes to defuse tensions, but so far the president has remained silent.
Turkey is reportedly disappointed. A proposed summit between Trump, Putin and Zelensky is now on hold. Recent peace talks in Istanbul lasted just an hour without any progress.
