Still determined to stand with its closest ally, the United States on Tuesday boldly condemned five of its closest allies for imposing sanctions on senior Israeli ministers.
The US called the move “completely unhelpful” and accused its allies of being wrong to target Hamas, not Israel.
Britain, Canada, Norway, New Zealand and Australia recently imposed sanctions on Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir for “repeated incitement to violence,” but the move has drawn sharp criticism from the US itself.
US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said sanctions on Israeli ministers would not lead to peace in Gaza.
She insisted that US allies should support their special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and provide funding to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation but not sideline Israel.
Ironically, the aforementioned Gaza aid foundation was also condemned by the UN for channeling aid alongside the Israeli army, thus raising questions about humanitarian principles.
Since returning to power, Trump has not wavered from his promise to stand firmly behind Israel, even though one by one allies have begun to distance themselves.
Until when will the promised 'peace' be just empty words?
When the mouth speaks of peace, but the eyes are deliberately closed to the repeated crimes of one's own close friend, isn't that a betrayal of the principles of justice that America brings?
