The price of sugary drinks such as coffee and carbonated water in this country is far more expensive than the price of a liter of RON95 petrol.
In a post on the X website, Public Health Malaysia (PHM) revealed that a glass of Spanish latte coffee at a cafe is sold for RM12, a glass of lemonade for RM4.50, while a 1.5-liter bottle of carbonated drinks costs RM3.80.
Meanwhile, the price of RON95 petrol is RM1.99 per liter – much cheaper than all types of sugary drinks.
PHM also reprimanded consumers for being willing to pay more to buy sugary drinks that are not beneficial to the body.
The Ministry of Health also stressed that excessive sugar intake can increase the risk of various non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, obesity and heart disease.
Ironically, we are willing to pay hundreds of ringgit for sugary drinks that are harmful to health, but think about filling up on petrol that takes us to a destination.
